Introduction
"And in that day ye shall ask Me nothing. Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Whatever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it
you.” (John 16:23)
If you have been having difficulty receiving answers to your
prayers, you have come to the right place. If you are willing to
discipline yourself, reading each of the multiple studies here at our
Supernatural Prayer Centre, you will become successful at prayer.
Prayer was never meant to be a hit or miss situation. God
wants to answer your prayers.
That is the first thing you need to
know. God wants to answer your prayers.
It
is always God’s will to answer prayer.
Have you ever been locked out of your
automobile or your home because you lost your key? Without the key,
you have no access even to those things that belong to you.
Prayer is
like that. Without the proper key you are locked out of all the
things the Bible says belong to you.
There are many keys to effective prayer and
we cover the majority of them in this Supernatural Prayer
curriculum. Today we will study some simple basics that Jesus taught
about effective prayer.
Notice something Jesus said in John 16:23
above.
He said, “…in that day ye shall ask Me nothing.” The day
that He was referring to is the day of His return to Heaven.
Jesus
has indeed returned to Heaven so from
now on His Disciples are instructed to no longer pray to Him.
While
He was on the Earth, His Disciples went to Him for everything.
Because He has gone back to Heaven, the rules for prayer have changed.

Pray
to the Father, Not to Jesus or Anyone Else
Look at something else Jesus said in the
above verse. He said, “…Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye
shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you.”
This is very important. Jesus said
that all prayer requests must be made to the Father, in His Name.
This means that it is improper to pray to Jesus. This is why so many
people go without answers to their prayers. They insist on praying to
Jesus when Jesus said, in essence, “Don't be asking Me now, ask the Father
in My Name.”
Some religious-minded people struggle with
this prayer rule of Jesus.
They cannot seem to stop praying to His
Mother Mary because that is the way their Denomination taught them.
Yet even Mary herself said, “Whatever Jesus says to do, do that.” (John
2:5)
People who wrongly pray to Mary would do well to take Mary’s
spiritual counsel. Mary said to do what Jesus said. Jesus said
pray to the Father and to the Father only. Jesus and Mary were both
pretty good at prayer. We would do well to hook up with them.
If you'd like to know more about what Mary
said concerning prayer, click right here on Mary's Prayer Secret. But you
probably should wait until you finish this study before doing so.
You've heard the saying, "Don't change horses in the middle of the
stream."
Now it is perfectly fine to love Jesus with
the words of your mouth, to worship Jesus, to fellowship with Jesus and to
talk to Jesus.
However, it is wrong to petition Jesus with prayer
requests because He said it was wrong. So did His Mother, Mary.
All prayer petition must be addressed to the
Father in Jesus’ Name. It is unacceptable, according to Jesus, to
pray to His Mother Mary, deceased family members or anyone else. All
prayer is to be address to the Father.
Miss it here and you will end up angry that
your prayers are not being answered. It won't be God’s fault
either. He has made His will clear in the Bible. It's up to us
to obey now.

Pray
to the Father in Jesus' Name
Again, in our
opening text, Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you.” (John
16:23)
Notice Jesus said
to pray in His Name, whenever prayer is offered to the Father. Some
people pray to the Father as they should, but they conclude their prayer
with the words “I ask this for Jesus’ sake.” Jesus did not say to
pray for His sake. Pray for your own sake. We are to conclude
our prayer with the words, “I ask this in Jesus’ Name.”
Somebody said, “What’s the big deal?
Who really cares? God knows what I mean.” Well, God
cares. He wants to help us. But the only way to get God’s help
is to approach Him according to His rules, not according to religion,
tradition, opinion or man-made rules.
God is not moved by our needs. He is
not moved by crisis situations, tears or anger. God is moved by faith in His Word.
His Word says to petition Him, and Him alone, in
Jesus’ powerful Name. You do want your prayers to be answered, don't
you?
Some prideful people believe that God will
answer their prayers because they live a better Christian life than
others. That is a good way to get in trouble with God. That is
self-righteousness and God calls it “filthy.” (Isaiah 64:6) If you have
been thinking that way, ask God to forgive you and
He will. But only if you ask in Jesus’ Name, that
is.
Years ago I had a friend whose Dad needed a heart
transplant. Thirty years earlier his Dad had signed a waiver on his
insurance policy excluding heart transplant coverage. Back in the 1960's
when he signed the waiver, heart transplants were uncommon and this man
never suspected he would ever need one.
Unfortunately for him, the day came when he
indeed did need a heart transplant. However, he had signed the waiver,
releasing his insurance company from any responsibility.
My
friend was desperate now to help his Dad. For two months he contacted anyone who he
thought might be able to change the mind of his Dad's insurance company. He
contacted and pleaded with
his State Senators. He pleaded with the American Heart Association,
surgeons and lawyers. He pleaded with
insurance company personnel continually and got absolutely nowhere.
This
young man had recently purchased a home and was now missing house payments
due to time taken off from work to plead his father's case with anyone who
might listen.
He was making absolutely no headway
whatsoever.
His State Senators, the American Heart
Association, surgeons, lawyers and insurance company personnel all assured
him that his Dad's insurance company had absolutely no responsibility or
obligation in this matter as his Dad had signed the release waiver thirty
years earlier.
One
day I went to my friend's place of employment to see if he was making any
progress.
He
was distraught as he assured me absolutely nothing had changed.
I
asked my Christian friend if he was praying and he assured me he was.
I asked him to tell me exactly how he was praying. He didn't
understand what I meant. I said, "Show me exactly how you're
praying. Pray right now and give me an example of how you are praying
for the insurance company to change their mind."
He
said to me, "I'm praying like this. I'm praying, 'Jesus, please
change the mind of the insurance company for my father's heart
transplant.'"
I
immediately said to him, "There's where you're making you're
mistake."
I
stood there and showed him what you learned in this lesson today,
instructing him to redirect his prayer to the Father in Jesus' Name. I
told him he was going to have to stop praying directly to Jesus and pray to
the Father in Jesus' Name.
I
then handed him a little book I had brought with me to help him. It
was a book by Dr. Kenneth E. Hagin called "Prayer Secrets."
I encouraged him to read the chapter on praying to the Father in Jesus'
Name. I left him alone to read the chapter, explaining I would be back
shortly.
When
I returned I asked him, "Do you see clearly now where you've been
making your mistake?" He answered, "Yes, I do." I
asked, "Would you like to re-pray the prayer on your Dad's
behalf? We'll pray to the Father in Jesus' Name."
He
quickly responded, "I've already done so." So I assured him,
"Then it will be done."
I
left the room to take care of some other business I had in the print shop
where he was working. Twenty minutes later the phone rang in the print shop
and it was a call for my friend. He took the call as I stood there,
listening to him repeat the words, "Thank you. Yes, thank you. Thank
you so much. Thank you. Thank you so very much" before ending the call.
Turning
from his call he looked at me and said, "That was the Insurance
Company. They told me they don't normally make exceptions like this, but in
my Dad's case they had changed their mind and they are going to grant him
the money for his heart transplant. They are going to allow him full
coverage for his heart transplant."
He
told me they said they didn't know why they were doing it, but in his case
they were going to do it.
We
knew why they did it. My friend had changed the way he was
praying. He was praying to Jesus and not to the Father.
Praying
to Jesus was creating another obstacle for him. When he corrected his
prayer, petitioning the Father in Jesus' Name, every obstacle was
supernaturally removed within twenty minutes.
If
you have been praying to Jesus, experiencing limited or no results, now you
know what your problem is. You also know what your solution is.
Jesus said, "Verily, verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the
Father in My Name, He will give it to you."

Praying
to the Father in Jesus' Name Brought Supernatural Results Once Again
Some
months later this same friend began missing work again. He was feeling ill
and unable to perform properly on the job. He went to the doctor and
received the report that he had contracted a disease called
"Lupus." Upon being given the diagnosis, the doctor
explained that the disease was incurable and the best my friend could hope
for was to learn how to live with it as comfortably as possible.
However,
this time my friend was no longer at a disadvantage when it came to
prayer.
Immediately
upon receiving the diagnosis at the doctor's office, he went out to his
truck in the parking lot and prayed to the Father in Jesus' Name. He
asked the Father to heal him of lupus and to remove it from his body, in
Jesus' Name.
Soon
after that prayer of faith and
obedience, the Father did just that - He eradicated every symptom of lupus from this young man's
body.
The
doctor was amazed to discover that every symptom had been removed and there
was now no longer any indication of the disease left in his
body.
The
doctor told my friend, "I don't understand this. This disease is
incurable."
To
which my friend responded, "Not in my case. I know how to pray
now."
Pray to the Father in Jesus’ Name and
receive supernatural results.
Unquestionable
obedience to God's written Word always sets
the stage for the miraculous.
We
have numerous New Testament witnesses that the Blood-backed
Name of Jesus is to be used for prayer (John 16:23), salvation (Acts 4:12), against sickness
(Acts 3:16), against Satan and demon powers (Mark 16:17), etc., for Jesus'
Name is the Name above all names.
"Wherefore
God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name:
That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and
things in Earth, and things under the Earth." (Philippians 2:9-10)

The "Pleading the Blood" Error
"The thing that hath been,
is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done:
and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there anything whereof it may be
said, See this is new? It hath been already of old time, which was before
us." (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10)
Ever
since the birth of Christianity, Satan has circulated certain popular
teachings and deceptions amongst believers. No sooner do the Prophets and
Teachers come along to reveal from God's Word the error of a certain popular
teaching, then Satan will produce yet another popular deception which is
also not based on God's Word.
Satan
is a deceiver and he is constantly on the prowl to deceive Christ's Body in
an attempt to destroy their effectiveness against him.
The
Bible says "there is no new thing under the sun" and certainly
this is true with the false teaching commonly referred to as "Pleading
the Blood."
The
"Pleading the Blood" error has been around for a very long time.
One generation of believers will adhere to it for a period of time only to
discover its ineffectiveness and it will fall by the way. The error
will lie dormant for a decade or two, or more, at which time Satan will
reintroduce it to a new, unsuspecting generation.
This is what Solomon
meant when he said, "There is no new thing under the sun."
The
"Pleading the Blood" doctrine teaches believers in Christ to
"plead the Blood" against sickness, poverty, danger, fear, loved
ones being blinded to the truth of God's Word, etc., in place of using the
Name of Jesus in these areas.
However,
there is nothing in either the Old or the New Testament that specifically
teaches any such practice as "Pleading the Blood" in these and
other areas. It is not a Bible-inspired doctrine.
The
single verse of Scripture that this unbiblical practice is commonly based
upon is found in the narrative of Israel's first Passover in the Book of
Exodus.
On
the night of Israel's exodus from Egypt, God told the Israelites to brush
the lintel and side posts of their entry doors with a hyssop branch dipped
in the blood of a sacrificed lamb. This was to keep the Death Angel assigned
to Egypt from visiting the Israelites' homes that evening.
"And
ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the
basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood ... For
the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians and when He seeth the
blood upon the lintel and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the
door and will not suffer the destroyer to come in to your house to smite
you." (Exodus 12:22-23)

Vital Keys to Proper Bible Interpretation
Every
astute Bible student knows the Bible is to be interpreted literally, unless
one is reading a passage that is very obviously figurative. Even when
it is figurative, we must always look for the literal meaning. This is the
first key to proper Bible interpretation.
This
passage of Scripture literally instructs the Israelites to brush
the blood of a lamb on the lintel and door posts of their homes using a
hyssop branch. It does not instruct New Testament believers to "plead
the Blood" of Jesus over themselves, their circumstances or their loved
ones.
If
one is going to insist that this passage of Scripture applies to the New
Testament Church today, they must literally do as it says. They must
brush the blood of a slain lamb on the lintel and door posts of their homes
using a hyssop branch to hold back the Death Angel.
Of
course, that would be foolish because this passage is not talking to the New
Testament Church in any way, for any reason. It is talking to Israel under
the Old Testament.
No
one, not even the present day Preachers who have popularized this error, has
the authority to teach "Pleading the Blood" based upon this one
Old Testament passage of Scripture. To do so is to take this passage
completely out of its intended literal context.
This
Old Testament passage of Scripture is commanding Israel to literally brush
lamb's blood on the doorframes of their homes.
It is not teaching Born
Again believers in Jesus Christ to "plead" Jesus' Blood.
One
popular Christian author has written a book about "Pleading the
Blood" of Jesus. In that book she stated that Israel applied the lamb's
blood with a hyssop branch. However, she says Christians now apply the
Blood of Jesus with their lips.
Initially
this sounds rather spiritual, possibly even Biblical, until one realizes
that no such thing is found either in the Old or the New Testaments.
Taking
one passage of Scripture out of its intended literal context to build a doctrine is
not the way to properly interpret the Bible.
Jesus
said nothing can be established without two or three confirming witnesses,
preferably from the New Testament. (Matthew 18:16)
Every astute Bible
student also realizes this is the second key to proper Bible interpretation
- two or three confirming witnesses in context and preferably from the New
Testament.
The
Prophet Moses
said nothing can be established without two or three witnesses. (Deuteronomy
17:6)
The
Apostle Paul also used the principle of two or three confirming witnesses.
(2Corinthians 13:1)
It
is wrong to attempt to build a Bible doctrine on one verse of Scripture
which is being taken out of its context. There must be two or three
confirming witnesses, in context, preferably from the New Testament, in
order to do so.
So
let us look again at the two primary keys to
proper Bible interpretation.
First,
the Bible is to be interpreted literally, unless one is reading a passage
that is very obviously figurative. Even when it is figurative, we must
always look for the literal meaning.
Second,
one must have two or three confirming Scriptural witnesses, in context,
preferably from the New Testament, in order to establish a Bible doctrine.
Where
does Exodus 12:22-23 specifically state that New Testament believers are to
"plead the Blood" over anyone or anything? It does
not.
Where
are the additional two or more New Testament Biblical witnesses to prove we are to do so
today? They
simply do not exist.
I
have read the New Testament from cover to cover many times and can speak
experientially when I say that those New Testament Scriptural witnesses do not exist.
Nowhere
in the New Testament did Jesus, Paul, Peter, James, Matthew, Mark, Luke,
John or any of the other New Testament authors "plead the Blood"
over anyone or anything at anytime. They always and only used the Name of
Jesus to enforce their authority in every situation.
Because
the New Testament authors did not "plead the Blood" in place of
using the Name of Jesus, we should not do so. We simply do not have the
required confirming New Testament verses that teach us to do so.
There
is absolutely nothing in the New Testament concerning "pleading the
Blood" by either precept or example. To do so in spite of this is to go
cross-wise and contrary to Moses, Jesus and Paul's teaching on proper Bible
interpretation and the proper use of the Believer's authority.
Top
"Pleading the Blood" Is No Substitute for Proper Use of Jesus'
Name
We
do, however, have numerous New Testament witnesses that the Blood-backed
Name of Jesus is to be used for prayer (John 16:23), salvation (Acts 4:12), against sickness
(Acts 3:16), against Satan and demon powers (Mark 16:17), etc., for Jesus'
Name is the Name above all names.
"Wherefore
God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name:
That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and
things in Earth, and things under the Earth." (Philippians 2:9-10)
Notice
the Apostle Paul said that "at the Name of Jesus," not by
"Pleading the Blood" of Jesus, every knee should bow.
Paul
also said, "And whatever ye do in word or deed, do all in the Name of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him."
(Colossians 3:17)
The
Apostle Paul never once in the New Testament instructed to do anything by
the power of "pleading the Blood." Yet he did say that we
are to "do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus."
On
and on and on the list goes in the New Testament. There are literally dozens
of times where we are instructed in the proper use of the Name of
Jesus. However,
never are we instructed to "plead the Blood" of Jesus at anytime,
for any reason, in place of using His Name.
The
New Testament believer must have confirming Biblical witnesses to believe
and to teach such a practice, and these Biblical witnesses simply do not exist.
It
is a deadly and a dangerous practice indeed to lift one or more verses of Scripture
out of context attempting to build a doctrine. Christians around the
world are being whipped up on by the devil through the false doctrine of
"Pleading the Blood" when they could experience tremendous
victories through the proper use of Jesus' Strong Name.
Yes,
of course, the Name of Jesus derives its power from the shed Blood of
Jesus. Without the shedding of Jesus' Blood to satisfy the Justice of
God, man would have no fellowship with God. He would therefore not
qualify to share in God's power through the use of Jesus' Name.
"And
almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of
blood is no remission ... So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of
many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time
without sin unto salvation." (Hebrews 9:22, 28)
The
Blood of Jesus was shed to protect us in our Adamic
sin from the wrath of God, clearing the way for humanity to be
reconciled to Him.
The
most microscopic drop of Jesus' Blood is greater than the greatest
concentration of evil.
The
precious, shed Blood of Jesus paved the way for man's redemption and the
forgiveness of sins.
"God
hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into
the Kingdom of His dear Son: in Whom we have redemption through His Blood,
even the forgiveness of sins." (Colossians 1:13-14)
However,
the New Testament specifically and clearly teaches, over and over again, it is the Name of Jesus, not the Blood of Jesus,
that we must speak forth to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the wrath
and rip-off of Satan.

The Deceitfulness of Deception
Many
would be surprised to know that the most popular present day "Plead the
Blood" Minister has publicly admitted that the practice of
"Pleading the Blood" is found nowhere in the New Testament, nor is
it found anywhere in the entire Bible.
Yet
he continues to teach it because, "My mother taught it to me and it works."
Recently,
in defense of the false "Pleading the Blood" doctrine, someone
expressed to me, "I have seen many plead the Blood over a situation and
something happened. The enemy had to let go."
I
reasoned with them, "If you were the devil, wouldn't you initially
respond obediently to someone 'Pleading the Blood' against you? That way you
could trick them into thinking it's really working. Then, later during a
crisis, you could turn their unscriptural practice against them, ignore
their command and slaughter them."
Satan
commonly operates this way. He's the great deceiver. (Revelation 12:9)
This
is why Jesus said, "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of
wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." (Mark
10:16)
This
is why the Apostle Paul wrote, "Lest Satan should get an advantage of
us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." (2 Corinthians 2:11)
Certainly
Satan and demons would respond obediently to a believer "Pleading the
Blood" against them in order to deceive them into believing it's
working. This would entice the believer to continue to do so even though
it's not found in the Bible.
Satan and demons will respond so it appears to
be working for a season. But then, in the face of an extreme crisis Satan
and demons will stop responding in order that they may now take advantage of
the believer to destroy them in their error.
The
believer was fooled because they did not have the two or three required
confirming witnesses, but they thought it was a real Bible doctrine because
after all, Brother and Sister So and So preached it for years and it seemed
to be working.
When
Satan realizes a Christian is stepping out on something unbiblical that will
ultimately get them in trouble, initially he will cooperate with it
wholeheartedly.
"Pleading
the Blood" of Jesus against Satan, demons and life's circumstances is a
classic example of this.
In
many cases it can be extremely difficult to convince one who believes in
"Pleading the Blood" that what they are doing is unscriptural,
because Satan has deceived them with the "But it works!"
justification.
Satan
himself knows it is easier for him to deceive someone than for a
knowledgeable Preacher to convince them that they are deceived.
Deceived
people do not know they are deceived because they are deceived.
There
is only one way out of deception. That is to go to God's Word and look
for the two or three confirming witnesses for what one is believing.
If those witnesses cannot be found in the Bible, then one has been deceived.
There
is no doubt about it, the Blood of Jesus and the Blood of Jesus alone
empowers the Name of Jesus. Jesus' Name derives its power from Jesus' Blood.
We
are not saying that there is something wrong with the Believer reminding the
devil that they are Blood-bought and in Blood covenant with God through
Jesus Christ.
However,
we are saying that it is the Name of Jesus we are taught to use in the exercise of our spiritual
authority and the Name only.
Many
today have been misled into replacing using the Name of Jesus with
"Pleading the Blood."
Do
not allow Satan to trick you with false doctrine just because it is being
preached by popular Ministers and it appears to be working for the
moment.
Satan
is setting a trap for you.

There Is Only One Way to Enforce Satan's Defeat
We
can sing about the Blood. We can teach about the Blood, for it is the
Blood of Jesus from which His Name derives its power. We can thank God for
the Blood. But nowhere in the Bible does "Pleading the Blood"
replace exercising our God-given authority through the proper use of Jesus'
Name.
In
closing, let's look at another verse of Scripture together.
"And
they overcame him by the Blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their
testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." (Revelation
12:11)
Another
individual came to me believing the above verse of Scripture is instructing
Christians to verbally "Plead the Blood."
I
explained that this Scripture, in context, says absolutely nothing
whatsoever about verbally "Pleading the Blood" against Satan,
sickness, fear, for family salvation, etc., the way it is being taught by
many Charismatic / Word of Faith Preachers today.
This
verse of Scripture is a reference to the believer enforcing Christ's defeat
of Satan which He accomplished by the shedding of His Blood.
There
is only one way for a believer to enforce the defeat of Satan and demon
powers on this Earth. That is through the proper use of Jesus' Name
and not by pleading His Blood.
"And
these signs shall follow them that believe: In My Name shall they cast out
demons..." (Mark 16:17)
"But
Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the
Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same
hour." (Acts 16:18)
The
Master Jesus and the Apostle Paul stand together in Biblical agreement.
Demons must obey only believers who use Jesus' Name, not those who
"Plead the Blood."
Generation
after generation, many well-meaning Christians have walked away from demonic
confrontation in total defeat because they were using the wrong weapon
for the job.
No
matter how popular a teaching may be, or how effective Satan may initially
allow it to appear, if it cannot be proven by two or three New Testament
witnesses, it will ultimately lead to defeat and despair.
It
is always best to stay with the New Testament.
It
is always best to stay with the power of Jesus' Name.
Unlike
"Pleading the Blood," Jesus' Name works not only initially, but it
keeps on working, time and time again.
Both
the Old and New Testaments agree, the power is in the Name of the Lord.
"Because
he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him
on high because he hath known My Name. He shall call upon Me and I
will answer him ..." (Psalm 91:14-15)
"I
will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy Name for Thy
loving-kindness and for Thy truth: for Thou hast magnified Thy Word above
all Thy Name." (Psalm 138:2)
"The
Name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous run into it, and is
safe." (Proverbs 18:10)
"And
whatsoever ye shall ask in My Name, that will I do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in My Name, I will do
it." (John 14:13-14)
"Ye
have not chosen Me but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should
go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatsoever
ye shall ask of the Father in My Name, He may give it you." (John
15:16)
"And
in that day ye shall ask Me nothing. Verily, verily I say unto you,
whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it you."
(John 16:23)
