Fuggedaboudit!
How to Become a Real Piece of Work

by Pastor John Hamel

“He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:10-12)

There was a popular TV program that glorified the nefarious, bloodstained culture of a certain ethnic underworld group.  You may know its name.

Tony, the program’s murderous namesake, is quoted as having said, “We’re just like any other family.”  In a sense, Tony S. is right.  Tony’s family is just like all other families in that all have sinned and fall short of God’s expectation of us. (Romans 3:23)

Someone said, “For a Mob guy, crime is only what he does.  Family is what he really is.”  Of course, this is simply not true.  It’s impossible to separate who you are from what you do.

You are what you do.  You do what you are.

All human beings, not just mobsters, murderers and “wise-guys,” need to have their nature changed.  We sin because we are sinners. (Ephesians 2:3)

We are sinful because of our blood ties to Adam, the original sinner! (Romans 5:17)

No one is “more” or “less” guilty of sin than another.  Again, we all fall short of God’s high expectations for us. (Romans 3:23)  This is why we all need Jesus.

Jesus can tell us a whole lot more about the spilling of innocent blood than any “realistic,” “truthful” television crime drama ever could.  Jesus personally and willingly spilled His own innocent Blood on behalf of all other murderous blood-spillers. (John 10:18)

Jesus allowed Himself to be “whacked” in the most horrible way to pay for the sins of even His own “whackers.”  Jesus knows experientially what it’s like to be brutalized by the “Mob.”  He hung naked and bleeding to death, the flesh of His body literally torn open, as the mob stood before Him, mocking, joking, spitting and cussing at Him. (Matthew 27:1-50)

Sleepless and in shock, gasping for breath, His heart literally pumping the last traces of innocent Blood from His body, Jesus cried out, “Father, forgive them.  They have no idea what they’re doing.” (Luke 23:34)

Giving up His physical life, Jesus then descended into the bowels of Hell to pay for the sins of those who sent Him to the torture stake that day -- YOU AND ME! (John 3:16; Acts 2:31,32)

His Father then raised Jesus up from the dead and returned Him to His position of Honor at God’s own right hand.

The Bible says all who accept Jesus getting “whacked” in their place are now seated there “in Him.” (Ephesians 2:6)

How about you?  Are you a “wise-guy”?

Are you wise enough to realize that to God “Sin is Sin” and no one, not even a “Mobster” is worse than anyone else?

I’ll say it for the third time.  “All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.”  (Romans 3:23)

You know what that word “all” means in the original language?  It means “ALL”

You may not live a life of crime, but you know that you are guilty of sin.

Why not say, “Jesus, You’re my choice.  Forgive me for my sin.” (Romans 10:13)

Know what God will say about that sin?

I, even I, am he that blots out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and [I] WILL NOT REMEMBER thy sins.”  (Isaiah 43:25)

In other words, God will say, “FUGGEDABOUDIT.”

Now run with Jesus.  He’ll rub off on you and you’ll become “a real piece of work.” (Ephesians 2:10)
